Traditional procedures pose risks of complications, whereas implants promote overall oral and jaw health. The presence of natural teeth or implants helps to preserve the jaw bone. An extracted or lost tooth can cause the bone to weaken or erode. Once placed, successful implants provide stability and work to maintain jaw health just as natural teeth do.
Dental implants offer a permanent tooth replacement solution for adults with missing teeth. Implants restore the beauty and function of your smile, without the need for additional maintenance. Board certified periodontist, Dr. Paul Denemark, is skilled in implant dentistry and provides a wide range of tooth restoration solutions for adults with missing teeth.
Why Choose Implants?
There are many reasons why choosing dental implants is a good treatment option for missing teeth.
These reasons include:
- Beautiful, natural looking smile
- Bone preservation
- Enjoy the foods you love
- Speak with confidence
- Preserve the adjoining teeth
- A more comfortable smile
Permanent Tooth Replacement with Dental Implants
When you visit Dr. Denemark to have your dental implants placed, he will administer an anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure. He will then place a titanium post into your jawbone at the site which has been strategically located utilizing 3-D images from your Cone Beam (Computed Tomography) CT scan. A dental implant is comprised of three components, which are a post, an abutment, and a crown. The abutment and crown are placed on top of the implant by your surgeon once it has initially healed.
Over the following three to six months, your titanium post will fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration, providing a strong foundation for your permanent tooth replacement. Once complete, you will return to your general or restorative dentist to have an abutment secured to the post. The abutment serves as a connector between the post and your dental crown, allowing the dental crown to appear as if it grows up from the gum line. This offers a more natural replication for adults with missing teeth. The crown will be shaped and shaded to match the surrounding teeth to ensure that people notice your bright smile and not your dental work.
After the Permanent Tooth Replacement Procedure
Of all of the tooth replacement methods, dental implants are more easily maintained for adults with missing teeth. Unlike other tooth replacement methods, dental implants never shift nor are they removable. Implants do not create special diet restrictions for patients, as is the case with partial or full dentures, or negatively impact adjacent teeth like a fixed bridge. Dental implants require the same brushing and flossing techniques, regular dental cleanings and checkups necessary to maintain the health of your natural teeth.
