LANAP® Laser Treatment
Gum disease has been linked to a variety of health complications including heart disease and low birth-weight babies. Until now, the majority of the treatment options available were invasive and painful. LANAP® is minimally invasive and does not require the cutting or stitching of the gums.
LANAP® Laser Treatment
If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffer from painful, swollen gums or shifting teeth due to gum disease, then laser gum disease treatment may be the solution for you. When you have gum disease, treatments for adults may include antibiotics, deep cleanings, or in severe cases, periodontal surgery. The two types of periodontal surgeries for the treatment of gum disease are traditional gum surgery and laser gum surgery. While traditional gum surgery is more familiar to most patients, laser treatment has been found to offer greater long-term health benefits. Board certified periodontist, Dr. Paul Denemark, offers laser gum disease treatment.
What Are LANAP® Gum Disease Treatments for Adults?
The Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) utilizes laser technology to successfully treat gum disease without the need for scalpels or sutures. This minimally invasive procedure is performed with the PerioLase® MVP-7™ and is the only FDA-cleared laser protocol for the treatment of periodontal disease. The pulsed light of the PerioLase® MVP-7™ has the ability to vaporize bacteria and cauterize as it removes diseased tissue, leaving healthy tissue intact. This method results in minimized bleeding and less pain for our patients, both during and after laser gum surgery.
Through the use of innovative laser dentistry, gum disease treatment for adults is less daunting, offering an alternative to those patients who fear traditional periodontal surgery or dental procedures, in general. Patients who undergo LANAP® report less discomfort, faster healing times, and immediately reduced inflammation. In order to keep our patients as comfortable as possible during laser dental care treatments, we offer sedation options including NuCalm Sedation.
